The USTA Girls' 14 National Clay Court Championship semifinals took place today at the Frank Veltri Racquet Center in Plantation, Florida. The sun was heating up the courts this morning as some of the nation's top talents battled it out on Veltri's clay courts for a coveted spot in tomorrow's final.
Fifth seed Allison Wang (San Jose, CA) took out top seed Reiley Rhodes (Annapolis, MD) 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Meanwhile, third seed Enya Hamilton (Addison, TX) had an easier time against 14th seed Corinne Winningham (Vestavia, AL) winning in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 .
Tournament Supervisor Dan DeBruyne told Florida Tennis that the final is scheduled for 9am tomorrow pitting Hamilton against Wang for the title (pending weather). That said, if it's anything like today, it will be another day of bright sunshine and sauna-like conditions as the players fight to win the coveted gold ball.
Spectators are free to come and witness the action as they face off against one another for a chance to be crowned National Champion. With the searing South Florida heat, it will test each player's fortitude on a slip-and-slide surface that demands tip-top fitness, endurance, and athleticism.
