US Open Brings Tennis Fan Experiences Across New York City

The US Open is expanding beyond the gates of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with a series of free fan experiences designed to bring the tournament’s energy directly into New York City.

As part of its “Celebrating Our New York Story” theme, the USTA is launching several citywide activations that connect tennis with public spaces, gaming, food, entertainment and local culture. The centerpiece is a new US Open Experience at Hudson Yards, where the Main Plaza surrounding the Vessel will be transformed into a public tennis destination during the opening week of the singles main draw.

Fans will be able to pick up racquets and play red-ball tennis on smaller-format courts, try tennis-themed games across platforms such as Fortnite, Roblox, Tennis Clash and TIEBREAK, and step through a recreation of the player tunnel that leads into Arthur Ashe Stadium. The experience will also include a champions photo opportunity designed to give visitors a taste of what it feels like to walk onto one of tennis’ biggest stages.

The Hudson Yards activation will also blend tennis with art, music, merchandise and food. US Open theme artist Eugenia Mello is scheduled to create artwork on site, while official tournament merchandise will be available for purchase, including opportunities for some fans to receive collectible match-used tennis balls.

The US Open’s signature Honey Deuce cocktail will also make an appearance, while official partners including Heineken 0.0, La Roche-Posay, Lavazza, Peloton and Polo Ralph Lauren will bring their own branded experiences to the space. Evening DJ sets are planned as part of the event’s Sunset Sessions, further extending the festival atmosphere beyond traditional tennis programming.

The USTA is also taking the tournament directly to public courts across the five boroughs with the first US Open Free Ice Cream Truck. The traveling truck will stop at tennis facilities in the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens, handing out complimentary soft-serve, ice pops and other US Open giveaways.

The concept places the tournament directly into the public parks where much of New York’s grassroots tennis culture lives. Stops include Cary Leeds Center in the Bronx, Riverside Park on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, McCarren Park in Brooklyn, Silver Lake Park on Staten Island and Astoria Park in Queens.

“We’re bringing the authentic, ‘spectacular’ experience of the US Open directly to fans across the five boroughs and to everyone watching at home,” said Nicole Kankam, Managing Director of Pro Tennis Marketing & Entertainment for the USTA. She said the broader goal is to celebrate the connection between the tournament, New York City and the fans who give the US Open much of its identity.

The citywide push also includes a new digital series called Rally the Boroughs, which turns New York into a tennis-themed competition course. The five-episode YouTube series follows three teams of tennis fans as they race through all five boroughs, solve clues, complete challenges at recognizable landmarks and encounter tennis personalities along the way.

The competition will incorporate everything from subway navigation to tennis skills and local knowledge, with the winning team earning a US Open prize package that includes tickets to the singles finals.

Together, the activations show how the US Open is continuing to evolve into a citywide entertainment event rather than a tournament confined to Flushing Meadows. By mixing public tennis, interactive gaming, food, music, merchandise and digital storytelling, the USTA is creating more ways for fans to experience the tournament whether or not they ever enter Arthur Ashe Stadium.

For a Grand Slam event already deeply tied to its host city, the strategy also reinforces the idea that New York itself is part of the US Open experience.
