J.J. Wolf Clinches US Open Wild Card as Comeback Gains Momentum

J.J. Wolf is officially headed back to the US Open main draw.

The 27-year-old American has clinched the men’s US Open Wild Card Challenge, earning a main-draw singles wild card into the 2026 tournament after building an insurmountable lead in the standings.

Wolf secured the wild card when second-place Andres Martin was eliminated from the ATP Challenger 75 event in Brownsburg, Indiana. Wolf leads the Challenge with 147 points, ahead of Martin and Michael Zheng.

The result continues an impressive comeback season for Wolf, who was sidelined for a full year after suffering a serious right shoulder injury in 2025. The former World No. 39 has steadily worked his way back through the professional ranks.

He returned to competition in February at an ITF M15 event in Naples, Florida, and went on to win the tournament without dropping a set. His early comeback also included Florida appearances at the Sarasota Open and the Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation Tennis Championships in Vero Beach.

The biggest breakthrough came in Vancouver, where Wolf won the ATP Challenger 125 title by defeating Mark Lajal 7-5, 6-1 in the final. The championship was Wolf’s biggest title since 2021.

Wolf has enjoyed success in New York before. He has twice reached the third round of the US Open and won the Wild Card Challenge in 2022 before advancing to the third round that year.

His comeback has also coincided with a new apparel partnership.

BOAST announced in February that it had signed Wolf, bringing the American player into the tennis brand’s growing presence in the professional game. Wolf said at the time that he was excited to begin a new chapter with the Florida-based company.

The partnership is now getting a bigger stage.

After beginning the year recovering from his shoulder injury and working his way through ITF and Challenger events, Wolf has a guaranteed place in the US Open main draw and another opportunity at a tournament where he has already produced some of the best Grand Slam results of his career.

For Wolf, the road back has stretched from Florida’s smaller professional events to a Challenger title in Canada and now to New York.

The next stop is the US Open.
