Jannik Sinner Defeats Alexander Zverev to Defend Wimbledon Crown
Jul 13, 2026
Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court to win his fifth Grand Slam singles championship.
The World No. 1 recovered from a set down in a high-quality final that lasted 3 hours and 46 minutes, bringing the curtain down on The Championships, Wimbledon with another defining performance on the sport’s most famous grass court.
With the victory, Sinner became only the 10th man in the Open Era to successfully defend the Wimbledon title, following in the footsteps of fellow Rolex Testimonees Rod Laver, Björn Borg, Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner, who joined the Rolex family in 2020, also secured his 100th Grand Slam match win. Earlier this year, he became the youngest man to claim all nine ATP Masters 1000 titles.
After the final, Sinner reflected on both the level of the match and the setting.
“It has been an amazing final once again. I’m very happy about the win but I’m also very happy about the level we both played. There is no better place to play tennis. You feel the nerves on Sunday morning when you wake up, it is very special, and you never know how many times you can come back. Thank you for your support, you gave me the most special feeling a tennis player can feel.”

The 2026 Championships drew more than 500,000 spectators through the gates of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, with the grass courts basking in sunshine throughout the fortnight and several matches pushing toward Wimbledon’s 11 p.m. curfew.
Rolex has been part of Wimbledon since 1978, when the Swiss watchmaker first partnered with The Championships. Since then, Rolex has expanded its presence across the sport and now serves as Official Timekeeper of all four Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, The Championships, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Other Rolex Testimonees also made their mark at this year’s tournament. Coco Gauff reached her first Wimbledon semifinal, defeating fellow Rolex Testimonee Belinda Bencic along the way, while Taylor Fritz advanced to a third consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal.

The Royal Box also welcomed Roger Federer, the record eight-time Wimbledon champion, along with his former coach and fellow Rolex legend Stefan Edberg, who was courtside for Sinner’s victory.
Edberg, a two-time Wimbledon champion in 1988 and 1990, reflected on the unique pressure and prestige of Centre Court.
“Wimbledon is really the pearl of all the Grand Slams and it’s amazing that Rolex has supported the tournament since 1978. The moment before you serve on championship point is very special. Bouncing the ball, the silence of the 15,000 spectators, the sound of your breathing when you stand there alone with the chance to win. Nobody knows what will happen next. Then obviously, the winning feeling is something that you dream about. For me that will always be a defining moment in my career.”
With a legacy dating back to 1877, Wimbledon remains the oldest and most storied tournament in tennis. The 2026 edition added another chapter to that history, with Sinner’s successful title defense further strengthening his place among the defining champions of the modern game.
As the tournament turns toward its landmark 2027 edition, Sinner will again have the opportunity to return to Centre Court and add his name deeper into Wimbledon’s decorated honours board.
