Fierce finals battle ahead at Delray Beach Open
Feb 16, 2025
After exciting semifinal showdowns yesterday, the singles final is set to start at 3:00pm today followed by the doubles final slated to start approximately 30 minutes after the championship singles ceremony.
In the night match at the DBO yesterday, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina triumphed over Matteo Arnaldi in straight sets, 6-4/6-4. What would it mean to him to win his first ATP title? “It’s very big but I don’t have to think about winning the title. I just need to focus on how I was progressing all week.” He added, “In the end, we will see who will win.”

Adam Ross of Florida Tennis asked Davidovich Fokina about a key sequence in the second set that played a significant role in the outcome of the match. Arnaldi served at 4-2, after breaking Davidovich Fokina, and had a chance to go up 5-2. Davidovich Fokina broke right back to 3-4 to get back on serve. How was he able to get that break back and close out the match? “It’s not easy. [There are] a lot of emotions. I was just returning everything, every serve. And at the end he did a couple of mistakes and I did it.”
Meanwhile, Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia will enter his second DBO final in three years. He enjoyed a strong straight set victory over American Alex Michelsen, 7-6(3)/6-3 during yesterday's day session. After the win Adam Ross of Florida Tennis asked Kecmanovic about his strong mental performance to get through the match. “I played really good in the first set to not lose, when I was up a break twice. That wasn't easy, but [I was] happy I managed to pull through.” Kecmanovic added, “I just started playing a lot better, more smarter, I would say in some moments. And yeah... it worked today.”

On the doubles side of the draw, American doubles players Christian Harrison and Evan King will face off against American Brandon Nakashima and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic. Watch out: Kecmanovic is trying to become only the fourth player ever to win the singles and doubles titles in the same year at the Delray Beach Open.
