Alcaraz beats Djokovic and becomes a back-to-back Wimbledon champion

At just 21 years old, Carlos Alcaraz is now a two-time Wimbledon champion. After facing Novak Djokovic in a much-anticipated rematch of last year's final, the Spaniard was able to pull off a decisive straight set win 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

That said, things got a bit dicey towards the end of the third set. Alcaraz lost three championship points in a row at 5-4, 40/0 in in the third set as the 7-time Wimbledon champion attempted his comeback. But Alcaraz kept his composure and closed him out with confidence in the tiebreaker.

Djokovic explained after the match, "I tried to push him and saved the three match points, extended the match a little bit, but it wasn’t meant to be really. He was an absolutely-deserved winner today, so congratulations to him for [playing] amazing tennis.”

Alcaraz added, "I tried to stay positive [during] that situation, going into the tie-break, and I tried to play my best tennis. That’s all I was thinking about. I’m really glad that at the end I could find the solution and I’m happy to be in this situation."

"It is a dream for me, winning this trophy," said Alcaraz. "At the end of my career, I want to sit at the same table as the big guys. That’s my main goal. That’s my dream right now.”

With a commanding two-hour, 27-minute win, Alcaraz brings his head-to-head battles with Djokovic to a dead-even 3-3. But he was also able to join Djokovic in another exclusive club too.  

It turns out that Alcaraz is just just the sixth man in the Open Era to win the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in the same year — he joins Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Rafael Federer and yes... Novak Djokovic on a very, very impressive list of players.
