A special thank you!
I'm incredibly proud of this issue — none of it would've been possible without the support of our amazing advertising partners: Tennis Plaza, USTA Florida, Delray Beach Open, Evert Tennis Academy, Lucky in Love, Sofibella, Midtown Tennis, Rick Macci Tennis Academy, USP, Boca Cryo, Little Mo, Cruise Control Gear, Nature's Rite, Delray Beach Tennis Center, Crosscourt Consulting LLC, College Exposure Camps, HITT at Sunrise Tennis Club, Youth Tennis Foundation of Florida, Nunez Tennis Training, Adidas Pickleball / All Racquet Sports USA, and The One Cowork.
What's inside?
The new July-August 2023 issue of Florida Tennis was a major undertaking and a true labor of love. The team executed a massive redesign that is absolutely stunning. More importantly, it's the biggest issue of Florida Tennis in 31 years.
So what's inside this new issue? Founder Jim Martz reveals his fascinating backstory — from his early days as a sports reporter at the Miami Herald to his 31 years at Florida Tennis. The genesis of the magazine really began with Jim and Arthur Ashe at the US Open... but I don't want to give it all away! Be sure to subscribe to find out how the magazine you love all came together.
Martz's cover story on ascending star, Ben Shelton, is a must-read. If Roger Federer's shoe brand, On, chose Ben as their first men's tennis pro to sponsor, they must be on to something. We worked with On to showcase some jaw-dropping photos of Shelton as well. And Contributing Writer Adam Ross gives some personal insights on Shelton in Autograph Corner.
Next up, iconic coach Rick Macci gave Martz an exclusive interview about four hot players right now: Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Reilly Opelka. What's Macci's analysis of these young Americans? Surprising. Check out the new issue to get his unique take on each player.
We're also honored to have six pages of informative updates from USTA Florida. The Koz talks to John Lloyd about his new book. USPTA Master Pro, Howard Chodak, questions why everyone is so far behind the baseline nowadays. Deborah Hobbs updates us on the Clearwater McMullen Tennis Center.
Dr. Richard Cohen provides mental toughness tips for those in their teens. And, for all those high school tennis players dreaming of a "full ride" at their favorite college, Thomas Anderson at University Sports Program (USP) has some great advice.
We give you the latest on the ATA, MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation, Junior Orange Bowl and much, much more. We even talked to the former Strength and Conditioning Coach of the New England Patriots and Florida Panthers about why so many professional tennis players are using cryotherapy for post-match recovery.
