Hexagon Cup Brings Star Power and Grassroots Energy to UK with Launch of National Amateur League

A bold new chapter for British padel has begun, as the team behind the globally recognised Hexagon Cup today announced the launch of the Hexagon Amateur League, a nationwide, team-based competition designed to bring the spirit and structure of the professional game to clubs across the UK.

Developed in partnership with Playtomic, the world’s largest racquet sports community, the league will officially begin in September 2025, offering amateur padel players a chance to compete in a three-tier league system, with regional fixtures and a season-long schedule. The initiative will culminate in a high-profile Finals Day in December 2025, with winners earning a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part in the “Road to Hexagon”, a pathway that will see top amateur teams play at the 2026 Hexagon Cup in Madrid alongside the sport’s elite.

To kick things off, Padel Hub Epsom hosted a vibrant launch event, where twelve amateur teams competed in a high-energy showcase tournament. Reflecting the Hexagon Cup’s professional franchise-style model, many of the amateur teams were backed by brands or well-known figures in sport and entertainment. Among those taking part were teams supported by John Terry, Sky Sports (with football legends Roberto Di Matteo and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink joining TV presenters Gail Davis and Jo Wilson), as well as representatives from Femme UK, Slazenger, Playtomic, and Team AD/vantage. TV personality Kem Cetinay also made an appearance, as guests enjoyed not just on-court action but music, giveaways, and coaching sessions with Team GB padel players.

The new league is being positioned as the most accessible and entertaining grassroots padel competition in the UK to date, and arrives on the back of a record-breaking year for the Hexagon Cup. Held in Madrid in January, the second edition of the pro event drew over 30,000 fans and more than 2 million online viewers, with global coverage reaching 750 million households across 35 broadcast networks.

Now, with padel’s popularity surging across the UK, the aim is to bring the Hexagon Cup’s mix of competition and entertainment to players of all levels.

“The vision of the Hexagon Amateur League is to bring the energy, innovation and team spirit of the Hexagon Cup to everyday padel players,” said Astrid Thams, Managing Director of the Hexagon Cup.

“Padel is growing fast across the UK, and we want to help clubs and communities tap into that momentum. We’re on a mission to make the game more exciting, more accessible and more connected—from grassroots to the global stage.”

That mission is shared by Playtomic, whose tech platform has played a major role in connecting padel communities across Europe and beyond.

“The UK has proven itself to be one of the most social padel nations today,” said Pedro Clavería, Co-founder of Playtomic.

“We believe the timing is perfect to launch the Hexagon Amateur League. This is all about making padel more fun and more accessible while helping grow the sport’s global footprint.”

With club registration opening this summer and anticipation already building, the Hexagon Amateur League promises to inject a new level of professionalism and excitement into Britain’s booming padel scene.
