The United States advanced to the Billie Jean King Cup semifinals for the first time since 2021 with a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan on Thursday in Shenzhen.

Emma Navarro saved two match points in a third-set tiebreak to beat Yulia Putintseva in the tie's first singles, and Jessica Pegula bounced back from a singles loss to Elena Rybakina to earn a clinching doubles victory with Taylor Townsend over Rybakina and Putintseva.
The USA faces the winner of Great Britain and Japan in Saturday's semifinals. The last time the USA was in the semifinals was at the 2021 Finals event in Prague, where it lost to the eventual-champion Russian Tennis Federation. The American team's last final appearance was in 2018, also in Prague vs. the Czech Republic in the old home-and-away format.
Saturday's semifinal begins at 5 p.m. local time, 5 a.m. ET. Tennis Channel will feature coverage in the U.S. The other semifinal featuring Italy and Ukraine will be played on Friday at 5 p.m. local time.
The lineups for Saturday's semifinal are set one hour prior to the start of the tie. The first team to win two of three matches advances to the final, scheduled for Sunday, September 21, also at 5 p.m. local.
