The Wolf in Winter: Novak Djokovic Documentary Coming to Prime Video

Prime Video has announced an August 20 premiere date for NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Wolf in Winter, a feature-length documentary exploring the life, career and legacy of Novak Djokovic.

The documentary, from Connor Schell’s Words + Pictures, Sadoux Productions and Emmy Award-winning director Jason Hehir, best known for The Last Dance, will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The film follows Djokovic’s journey from the hardscrabble courts of Serbia to becoming the most accomplished champion in the history of men’s tennis. With 24 Grand Slam singles titles, more than 1,100 career singles match wins, an Olympic gold medal, a record 428 weeks at world No. 1 and more Grand Slam appearances than any player in the Open Era, Djokovic has built one of the most statistically dominant careers in sports history.

But The Wolf in Winter is positioned as more than a record-book retrospective. The documentary aims to examine the man behind the titles, presenting Djokovic as both an unmatched champion and one of the most complex and polarizing figures in modern athletics.

The film explores Djokovic’s upbringing in war-torn Serbia, the financial hardships his family faced while supporting his tennis career, and the challenges he encountered as he entered a professional tennis world already shaped by the Federer-Nadal rivalry.

Through exclusive behind-the-scenes access at major tournaments, training sessions and quieter moments at home with family and friends, the documentary offers a closer look at Djokovic’s world and the fire that helped drive his rise.

The film features interviews with Djokovic, his wife Jelena, his family and several major figures from the tennis world, including Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Boris Becker and Jim Courier. It also includes media personalities Mary Carillo, Patrick McEnroe, Howard Bryant, Chris Clarey and Matthew Futterman.

“I’ve always been fascinated by what drives the greatest athletes, and specifically what motivates them once they’ve reached the pinnacle of their sport,” said director Jason Hehir. “Novak gave us unfettered access to his tireless physical and mental preparation as he competes at the highest level of the sport battling men sometimes half his age. In the process, we got to know him as a father, a husband, a friend and a sometimes maddeningly stubborn polarizing cultural figure. He’s a fascinating person, and I’m excited for audiences to see this exploration of a GOAT at the crossroads in the twilight of a brilliant career.”
