One-on-One Doubles Tournament & Concert Event Slated for UNF Alumni Weekend on March 23

The One-On-One Doubles Rock N' Roll Tournament Event, with $4500 in Prize money, is headed to Jacksonville, Fl. — to celebrate UNF Athletics 40th Alumni Anniversary on Saturday, March 23rd. The Men's and Women's draws are open to the Jacksonville Tennis Community & UNF alumni and it will serve as a Qualifying event for the $4000 Men's & Women's One-On-One Doubles Championships slated for a 1:30pm start. Two wildcards, from each Men's and Women's morning event, will be given to the Finalists of each Men's and Women's Alumni & Friends draw. 6-8 other wildcards will be given out to play in this event. Entry fees are $30 for the Qualifying Event-for Alumni & Friends- and $50 for the Open Event.

The One-On-One Doubles event will celebrate this UNF Alumni 40th Anniversary-- with a concert by Jacksonville's premiere Southern Rock Cover Band, Paul Wane & The Duval County Line. Paul Wane played the national anthem, on his wailing rock n roll guitar, at the start of the Jacksonville Jaguars home game, in January of 2023, in front of 65,000 screaming football fans.

UNF Head Men's Coach, Matt Lucas, is excited to host this special event. Lucas, who has won two ASUN conference championships with his Men's team, goes on to state "I have known Coach Krass since I was a player at N.C. State, and know the type of energy he brings to everything he does. One-On-One Doubles is an exciting style of tennis that is action packed, fast and furious. I've competed in these events at the ITA coaches conventions and know how much fun is had. The Band will be rocking and rolling and it's just an amazing experience. To bring this to our alumni weekend and celebration of 40 years of UNF athletics is amazing. Alumni, donors, and the Jax tennis community are in store for a big event. We cannot wait."

The Women's One-On-One Doubles draw will also offer $2000 in prize money. The UNF Women's team, who won two ASUN titles since 2019, will be out in full force hoping one of the Ospreys captures the title. UNF Women's Head Tennis Coach, Catherine Dunagan, whose team defeated #25 nationally ranked University of Mississippi in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Team Tournament, is really looking forward to the event day. Dunagan said, "We are so thrilled to have Ed Krass run his exciting One-On-One Doubles Tournament on our UNF campus! Its a fun format of tennis and competing with a great local band playing live will make this event entertaining for all involved. We cannot wait to celebrate 40 years of UNF Athletics with such a lively event!"
