New ITF initiative offers wide range of support for tennis players from mental wellbeing to financial literacy

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has launched its Player Care Programme - a comprehensive new initiative designed to support athletes’ wellbeing both on and off the court.

The game’s global governing body is reinforcing its commitment to supporting players’ mental and physical health by providing tailored resources and expert guidance to help athletes manage the challenges of professional tennis.

The Player Care Programme is available to all players across the ITF professional tennis tours, including World Tennis Tour, Wheelchair Tennis Tour and Beach Tennis Tour.

Included in the programme is a Wellbeing Tracking app, which allows players to record and monitor their wellbeing and gain a better understanding of its relationship with performance.

A wide range of other Player Care Programme resources are available via the ITF Academyincluding:

- A series of practical resources, titled “Wellbeing Matters”, covering topics such as mood regulation, sleep optimisation, relationship management, and travel fatigue

- Video-based education materials covering basic financial matters such as budgeting, savings, and sports taxation.

- Expert advice on navigating the digital landscape and dealing with online abuse

- Confidential online consultations with wellbeing professionals

- An online course (developed in partnership with International SOS) that promotes player safety while travelling.

David Haggerty, ITF President, said: “We recognise that players are more than just competitors and this new programme is based on the principle that optimal performance as an international tennis player can only be achieved through a combination of physical health and mental wellbeing.

"As the global guardian of the game, we are committed to making sure the sport and its players thrive in all four corners of the globe. We are very proud to offer such a comprehensive package of free support materials to tens of thousands of players across the world - from those competing at elite international level to those planning their post-competition career."

Alana Parnaby, ITF World Tennis Tour Player Panel representative, said: "The Player Care Programme is a welcome addition to the support provided by the ITF. The new resources will allow players to increase their knowledge and awareness of how to mitigate the wellbeing risks they face while participating in international tennis. In doing so, they can focus on maximising their on-court potential and tour experience."
