Main draw kicks off at Delray Beach Open; Qualies, Legends, and Pro-Am wrap up
Feb 10, 2025
The weekend at the Delray Beach Open wrapped up with some intriguing results in the Qualifiers, Legends event, and the annual Pro-Am tournament. Today marks the kickoff of main draw play at the Delray Beach Tennis Center on Atlantic Avenue. It's definitely going to be a perfect day to swing by the ATP tournament.
First off, Florida Tennis was honored to play in the incredibly fun Delray Beach Open Pro-Am tournament. A group of top players who are set to play in the DBO's doubles draw matched up with a group of amateurs to play in a round robin format. One highlight was seeing a racquet with two handles. Another cool moment was Matt Pressman (Editor of Florida Tennis) winning the Pro-Am tournament!

On the Legends side of the tournament this weekend, the two Bryan brothers both scored the most sets won (6 each) as action wrapped up. Florida Tennis contributor Adam Ross caught up with Mike Bryan who told him: "We go way back with the [DBO's] Baron family. They've done such a good job with this event for almost 30 years. So this event's a special place for us for so many reasons, just because it feels like a home tournament."
Meanwhile, Bob Bryan told Ross: "This is one of the biggest tennis communities in the United States. Delray Beach and South Florida are one of [tennis'] biggest regions. So the more tournaments you have here, the better... We always loved coming here."

There was no rest for the qualifiers. The four qualifiers and a lucky loser all played the final round of qualifying on Sunday, and will be back in action on Monday. American Tristan Boyer qualified for his second ATP Tour-level main draw. His first was at last month's Australian Open, where he won his first round. Boyer, who played at Stanford, tied the record for most Challenger match wins in a season for an American last year with 44.
American Zachary Svajda qualified for the Delray Beach Open for the second year in a row. And fellow American Michael Mmoh, who reached the quarterfinals here in 2023, just returned from an elbow injury last week after nine months off the tour and has qualified for his second tournament in two weeks. The fourth qualifier was Japanese player James Trotter, who won the 2023 NCAA doubles title while playing for Ohio State. And 2023 NCAA singles champion for Georgia, Ethan Quinn, made it into the main draw as a lucky loser.

The main draw kicks off today. Cameron Norrie of Great Britain, the 2022 champion, will be in action as will 2023 finalist Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia. And American Brandon Nakashima, 23, who won the 2022 ATP Next Gen Finals for top young players, plays in the night session. Since last summer Nakashima's chalked up wins over Top 20 players Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe, Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti and Sebastian Baez.
Finally, we've got an important "pro tip" for those attending the DBO. Some of the best action can often be found watching the players practicing as long before their matches are even scheduled. Check out this epic dropshot battle between Americans Alex Michelson and Marcos Giron on the stadium court during a hard-fought practice session. Who gets revenge in the end?
