First-Ever Miami Open Winner Tim Mayotte Highlights Leading-Edge Instructional Magazine
Jun 16, 2026
tennisplayer.net Issue Focused on the Transition Game
Former top ten pro Tim Mayotte, winner of the first Miami Open back in 1985, is one of several prominent experts who’ve made major contributions to the latest issue of tennis’ preeminent instructional publication, tennisplayer.net.
Mayotte, owner of the best forehand volley of his time (the ‘80s and early ‘90s), explains what’s required to gain mastery of a shot once described by a Wimbledon champion as “the hardest easy shot in tennis.”
In addition to Mayotte, tennisplayer.net provides new stories by prominent coach Chris Lewit on the contemporary approach shot, former top tenner Lori McNeil on the chip-and-charge return, and ex-pro Trey Waltke on the transition mindset.

The issue also features a number of tennisplayer.net “Classics,” including deep dives on net play from such prominent Florida-based coaches as Kyle LaCroix and Jack Groppel.
As tennisplayer.net executive editor Joel Drucker explained, “Whether you’re an adult keen to close out more points at the net, or a junior eager to take advantage of his or her groundstrokes, understanding the transition area is critical.”
As the sport’s preeminent instructional publication, backed by its archive of 100,000 videos and 1,600 articles, tennisplayer.net for more than 20 years has regularly delivered innovative and compelling visual and written content on topics ranging from how to return serve more effectively to building footwork skills to off-court training exercises, strategy, psychology, and more.
“Our motto is ‘learn, compete, improve,’” said Drucker, “and certainly helping both juniors and adults learn more about the transition part of the court will greatly benefit their desire to win more matches.”
