Exclusive Interview with Executive Director Adam Baron of the Delray Beach Open

Now that the 2025 Delray Beach Open is in the rear view mirror, it's time to take stock and look ahead. To do that, Florida Tennis Entertainment Director, DJ Mad Linx, got a chance to sit down with the DBO's Executive Director Adam Baron towards the end of the tournament to learn more about what makes the DBO so special.

“I live, breathe, eat this tournament—day in, day out, 365, 24/7,” Baron says with a grin, leaning back as he takes in the view of the stadium. “This tournament is a huge part of my life and my family’s life. We started this 33 years ago, and it just keeps getting better.”

Walking through the Delray Beach Open grounds, it’s easy to see why this event is a fan favorite. Located just steps from the city’s bustling Atlantic Avenue, the Delray Beach Open blends world-class tennis with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

“You’ve got the beach a mile away, an incredible downtown scene, and over 100 bars, shops, and restaurants,” Baron points out. Over the years, Delray Beach has transformed into a vibrant vacation destination, attracting both tennis fans and casual visitors looking for a great time.

Meanwhile, the Delray Beach Open has seen some of the biggest names in tennis grace its courts. From Hall of Famers to rising stars, the event has served as both a proving ground and a showcase for greatness.

“We’ve had legends like Agassi, Del Potro, Rios, McEnroe, Lendl, Fritz, Tommy Paul, and the Bryan Brothers,” Baron recalls. “It’s amazing to see both the seasoned pros and the young guns making their mark here.”

And it’s not just about the stars of today. The tournament has a history of launching future champions. “It’s a stepping stone for so many players, and that’s part of what makes this tournament so special,” explains Baron.

One of the most talked-about features of the Delray Beach Open is the BMW parked right on the stadium court. “We started it years ago, and now it’s just part of the event,” Baron laughs. “Fans always ask, ‘Can you turn it on? Can you sit in it?’”

It’s just another example of the fun, relaxed vibe that sets this tournament apart. With nightly food and drink events, live music, and interactive fan experiences, there’s something for everyone.

“We’ve got the Delray Beach Open Food & Wine Series—Burgers, Bourbon & Brew, Tacos, Tequila & Tennis, even Valentine’s & Volleys,” Baron says. “It’s about making tennis fun, bringing in people who may not even be hardcore fans. They come for the food and drinks, then realize, ‘Wow, this tennis is actually really good!’”

And that formula has worked. Behind the scenes, it’s a massive team effort that brings everything together. “I’ll see my family one of these days,” Baron jokes.

“But seriously, it’s not just the staff—it’s the volunteers, ball kids, city officials, security, and our amazing partners. Everyone comes together to put on this event, and we’re grateful for that,”  adds Baron.

That sense of community extends to the youth programs and clinics the tournament hosts, giving young players a chance to get up close and personal with the pros.

“We have a Legends Clinic, Kid's Day, opening weekend events—something for every age and skill level,” Baron says. “It’s about growing the game and making it accessible to everyone.”

With another successful tournament in the books, Baron is already looking ahead to next year. And if this year is any indication, the Delray Beach Open’s 34th edition promises to be bigger and better than ever.

“We’re coming back next year, no doubt,” Baron confirms. “Everything you need to know—tickets, schedules—it’s all on DelrayBeachOpen.com. We can’t wait to do it all over again.”
