Delray Beach Open: Main draw kicks off with enthralling tennis

Yesterday kicked off a week of top-notch tennis as main draw matches took center stage at the Delray Beach Open. Florida Tennis was on the scene to capture exciting moments on stadium court and all around the facility.

Florida Tennis Entertainment Director DJ Mad Linx was on-hand to witness the one-handed backhand alive and well at the DBO last night. Even though James Kent Trotter lost last night against Brandon Nakashima 7-6, 6-1, the one-hander won a lot of fans in South Florida with his unique brand of stroke production off the backhand wing. Check out his backhand brilliance clearly on display during this point...

Wandering to the outer courts earlier in the day, we caught up with Yoshihito Nishioka working on his forehand during an intense practice session. Question for those tennis technique nerds out there... should Nishioka finish his forehand over his right or left shoulder? Watch closely. Either way, that forehand looks fierce as he preps for an upcoming week in the Florida sun.

Speaking of South Florida heat, Cameron Norrie said it was a "shock to the system" adjusting to tennis in the Sunshine State — but he's not sweating it too much. The Brit was able to take down his first round opponent Zachary Svajda 7-5, 6-4 at the Delray Beach Open in the afternoon yesterday. Well done Cam, time to hit the showers!

What's our pick for the best match today? Hmmm... that's a tall order. But keep an eye out for the night session. At 6-7, Christopher Eubanks isn't often the "short" player on the court. But Tuesday night he faces 6-11 Reilly Opelka. We're looking forward to this battle of the giants. During the day session, be sure to check out Nishioka's forehand in action against an always-tough Aleksandar Vukic.

What's our pick for best booth to visit this Tuesday at the DBO? Be sure to visit the USTA Florida booth to get yourself the latest copy of Florida Tennis — the Delray Beach Open Special Issue! Florida Tennis Associate Editor Osvaldo Godoy visited the USTA Florida booth and he also captured some footage of their Kid's Day event activation over the weekend. Check it out below. And... by the way, kids tickets are half off today at the DBO!
