Boys National Clay Court Championships Recap

The Boys 18s and 16s divisions officially kicked off on Sunday across Palm Beach County, marking the start of the highly anticipated USTA Boys National Clay Court Championships. With top young talent competing at four venues—Delray Beach Tennis Center, Boca Raton Racquet Center, Palm Beach Gardens Tennis Center, and The Country Club at Mirasol—Day 1 delivered strong performances and set the tone for an exciting week ahead.

Boys 18s: Player of the Day – Brady Friesen

Brady Friesen came out strong in his opening-round match, defeating Lucas Sparks with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 scoreline. The Westport, Connecticut native now advances to face No. 17 seed George Santalov on Monday, July 7, in the second round. Off the court, Friesen keeps things light—he enjoys cooking, playing golf, and counts Rafael Nadal as his tennis idol. His favorite sports movie? Creed.

Boys 16s: Player of the Day – Parker Hulse

In the Boys 16s division, Seattle’s Parker Hulse made a statement with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Kalvin Gandhi. A two-time high school state champion, Hulse brings experience and composure to the court. Like Friesen, he enjoys golf when he's not swinging a racquet, and looks up to Roger Federer as his tennis inspiration.
